Ottawa cyclist dies after hitting car door

A woman died Tuesday morning when her bicycle collided with a car door and sent her into the path of a car in downtown Ottawa.

Witnesses said the woman was cycling along Queen Street at 9 a.m. ET between Metcalfe and O’Connor streets when a driver opened the door of a vehicle parked on the side of the road.Flowers were left Tuesday evening on Queen Street in downtown Ottawa after a cyclist died earlier in a collision. The cyclist, believed to be in her 30s, hit the door, lost her balance and crashed to her left into the path of a following Volkswagen sedan, witnesses said. She became trapped between the front and rear wheels.
